In a time of heightened tension there are often clamours for greater protection of individuals by the state. That’s usually when hard won freedoms are most at risk.

Censorship is the choice of totalitarian states who stifle alternative viewpoints because they would weaken their own propaganda campaigns. The Social Contract espoused by Rousseau is the myth that the state knows best what is good for its citizens. Tolerance and liberalism are the first victims of reactionary politics.
We should not be duped into allowing our governments to enact draconian legislation.
