It’s that time of year again – Eurovision, the singing extravaganza that is such an easy target for ridicule, and yet we still watch it.
I love the bizarre lyrics either in translation or in some semblance of English. Here are a few that took my fancy:
This year’s entry Heroes sung by Måns Zelmerlöw of Sweden includes
Don’t tell the gods I left a mess (a dodgy curry can do that to you)
I can’t undo what has been done
Let’s run for cover
I make worms turn into butterflies (not caterpillars then?)
Wake up and turn this world around
In appreciation
The 2002 winner I Wanna by Marie – N of Latvia
Today you think you are the winner
Today you think you are the king
You make me sweat in my emotions (really? sweat in your emotions?)
Under your fly-away, fly-away wing
The 2006 winner Hard Rock Hallelujah by Lordi of Finland
The true believers, thou shall be saved
Brothers and sisters, keep strong in the faith
On the Day of Rockoning, it’s who dares, wins (yes, Day of Rockoning)
You will see the jokers soon’ll be the new kings
