More evidence that Westerners just don’t get it. A party of young tourists thought it would be a laugh to strip naked and take selfies of themselves on top of a mountain.
The group was blamed for a magnitude 5.9 earthquake after stripping off on Mount Kinabalu, in Malaysia (pictured).
The mountain is considered sacred by Sabah’s Kadazan Dusun tribe. Kinabalu is derived from the tribe’s phrase “Aki Nabalu”, which means resting place of the dead.
Released from jail with a small fine was deemed an appropriate sentence by one of the tourist’s parents. The media scrum around the courthouse and the headlines in the local press would have come as a shock to the tourists. But I doubt if mountains really give a damn what foolish antics are performed on their slopes.
