Rather than sit and look at a screen which is failing to load a program, I have taken this opportunity to share some inspired thoughts with my readers…

Nuns are nice. I have this on good authority, so please do not bring up the infamous laundry in Ireland or Christopher Hitchens’ opinion of Mother Teresa. Their niceness is more conceptual than actual. Audrey Hepburn or Julie Andrews in a wimple – what could be nicer?

AH nun

People in Ireland (North and South) are nice. “People are so friendly” is another way of putting it. This is a truism, not even Christopher Hitchens would dispute this one. Most people have time for a chat and are curious about others. That direct eye contact from strangers can be a bit disconcerting to begin with, but you get used to it.

Nice – derivation (from dictionary.com):

1250-1300; Middle English: foolish, stupid < Old French: silly, simple <Latin nescius ignorant, incapable, equivalent to ne- negative prefix + sci-(stem of scīre to know; see science) + -us adj. suffix

Current usage of the word hints at the lack of knowledge or deep insight, but is more commonly used for something innocuous or inoffensive.
