Sidney Bechet on the headphones, toasted bacon sandwich demolished and the first mug of coffee drunk. Let the day begin…

pestle and mortar

I have a good set of cookbooks that I rarely use. But today I am going to give the Naked Chef by Jamie Oliver a whirl. Homemade pasta sounds good, so a trip into town to buy a pasta maker is scheduled. While I am there pottering around St Georges’s Market, I might buy myself a new key case.

The other evening a kind motorist pulled over to tell me that my wallet had fallen out of my pocket. It turned out to be my key case that had jumped ship. Well, I searched up and down the road several times, but couldn’t find my keys. Some miscreant must have lifted them thinking it was something more valuable.

Back to post breakfast plans. I bought a new U lock. This time I will register my key for it, just in case. I could have a crack at fixing the lock holder onto the bike’s frame, or just wait until I have cut the old one off the panier frame.

I made shepherd’s pie yesterday by loosely following the cookbook written by a local foodie. It lacked oomph and could have done with more mash topping, but it filled a hole. We eat a fair bit of pasta so one of Jamie’s sauces might be just the thing to go with homemade tagliatelle. How have we coped without a food processor for so long?

Do we really need a pestle and mortar?
