I just dipped into a MOOC called Start Writing Fiction by the Open University. Working from home doesn’t give me enough time to engage with online learning fully. I noticed that time was running out. You only get a set amount of time to access the course material.

That’s why I was dipping into the course hurriedly. My primary objective was to get some feedback on my writing. Skipping to Week 8 of the course, I rushed through the assignment of a short story in less than 1,000 words. That took me about an hour and was loosely based on my public school experiences.

Having submitted my work and feeling ok about it, I carried out two reviews and waited for the reviews of my story from my fellow students. The first reviewer liked my dialogue but took issue with the essential theme which was supposed to be ‘conflict.’ Fair enough, I hadn’t taken that on board with all my skip reading.

The other reviewer was more taken with my yarn and very generous in her praise. I might have her review framed or maybe just her last sentence…”I find this story hard to find fault with as I really enjoyed reading it.” Wow!
