I have started monitoring my blood sugar level using a little gizmo called the Accu-Chek Mobile. It pricks your finger, you apply the blood drop to the device and in no time at all it displays a reading. Today it’s 10.4. I’m aiming for 7.0.
During lockdown my alcohol consumption has been up and down, but mostly up. So I thought it sensible to see the effect on my blood sugar levels. The results aren’t too frightening but show that I need to pay more attention to what I put into my body.
The long term goal is to come off Type 2 Diabetes medicine, having reduced my blood sugar levels, and kick started my pancreas to produce normal amounts of insulin.
Easier said than done. I may have kicked the boiled sweets habit, but my consumption of carbohydrates and booze is still too high. I have had one successful period of abstemiousness, but need to repeat the process and find a sustainable, healthier lifestyle.
