Once I have discovered a new author I go a bit dullaly and read several of the author’s books, one after the other. I am finding out that this can dull the enjoyment. William Boyd has written some brilliant works of fiction and I really enjoy his way with words. But I have been binge reading his novels for the last couple of months and I am ready for a change.
It will be hard to break the habit of reading someone’s work that I can so easily plug into my cerebral cortex and let the images wash over me. Pulp fiction won’t do it. It would be like a McDonald’s after a delicious gourmet meal. Maybe some non fiction might serve as the sorbet palate cleanser in a banquet of Boyd’s.
Another dip into the anthology of Western Philosophy? God’s commands as the foundation for morality is Robert M. Adams’ Moral argument for theistic belief. Or is that too heavy? Maybe …so I bought a paperback copy of Ian McEwan’s latest novel, Lessons.
