So much clutter

We are embarking on a major renovation project, replacing flooring, windows, heating system and opening up the kitchen and dining room with a small extension at the rear of the property.

To do this we will have to put all our furniture and stuff into storage. It’s the sheer volume of stuff that is so daunting. Clearing out the garage will help. We could then move the heavier items of furniture in there.

Books, papers, paintings, clothes and crap that we have been too lazy to get rid of makes a prodigious mountain of stuff to be shifted or ditched. Not driving a car hampers our ability to get rid of glassware the council won’t provide a recycling box for. Another mountain of bottles defining lives well lived, or functioning alcoholics.

We are running out of time for the clear out before my better half returns to teaching at the end of the month. We have a stack of cardboard boxes, the skip hire will cost £240 and we will have to move into a rental property for at least eight weeks.

Do we need an architect? Minor changes to the ground loor layout and the extension… probably.
