Bookies must admire my betting on underdogs given the slim chances of them winning. Today’s betting is typical. I have picked Wales to beat South Africa and England to beat Ireland. There is, of course, an element of comfort betting whereby I would be delighted if Wales win, but realistically South Africa are favourites for good reason. Likewise, England should lose to Ireland and that would be my preferred outcome.
Owen Farrell won’t be lining up with the England team at Lansdowne Road and I can’t say I’m disappointed. His red card was entirely justified and he has a reputation for foul play. Taine Basham who received a head injury from Farrell’s shoulder will be on the Wales bench today for the South Africa game.
