The joys of seating

Last night I took my seat in the stand at Ulster’s rugby ground. This is an admission of old age and painful joints that make my days standing on the terraces a thing of the past. There’s even a lift that took me to the top of the stand where the press hang out with their laptops.

Sitting near the halfway line in comfort made for an enjoyable experience, rather than an endurance test on the terraces. The rugby was exciting with Ulster taking on Glasgow, last year’s winners of the URC. It was a close game and with a minute to go Ulster were down by four points. The forwards camped out on the Glasgow try line and powered over for a winning five points.

I cycled home along empty streets buoyed up by the victory and the pint of Murphy’s at half-time.
