Local Anaesthetic

My teeth have needed a lot of visits to the dentist over the years. Luckily a great deal of work went into conserving teeth that have a genetic flaw known as opalescent dentine. Plenty of crowns provided by the NHS dentists in London and Belfast, but I switched to a very good private dentist during Covid and had implants by an excellent dental surgeon over two years ago.

I mentioned a book by Gunther Grass called Local Anaesthetic to my current dentist. He hadn’t come across it, but has since downloaded it onto Kindle. My recollection of the novel was favourable although apparently it has not had good reviews.

At Technical College I listened to an interview with the author at the language laboratory when I was 17. My German was not really up to understanding much of the conversation but I remember great play was made of the place name Baden Baden.

Tin Drum was a book that did very well and was made into a popular film.
