The two superpowers have embarked on wars that have involved neighbouring countries. The Russian invasion of Ukraine brought about the military support of the EU. Donald Trump as peacemaker in negotiations between Zelensky and Putin has failed to reach an acceptable compromise. Why would the invaded nation concede territory to the aggressor?
Trump’s alliance with Israel to bomb Iran has extended the conflict in the Middle East with no clear end goal. The cause of the war is as unjustified as the war with Iraq, a mistaken or trumped up fear of an imminent threat. Without any evidence of such a threat and without a UN mandate Trump launched his bombing missions. Iranian civilians have suffered the consequences. Meanwhile oil and gas prices have soared on global markets and there is increasing instability in the Middle East.
