My Welsh friend and I were enjoying a quick pint on Friday when he recommended the poetry of Felix Dennis.
We obviously discussed my enthusiasm for Montaigne, and of course he had purchased a 3 volume leather-bound edition of the Essays ( translated by Florio) some time ago.
I was curious about Felix Dennis’ poems and had a look at his website. The format is brilliant and I really appreciate listening to the spoken word, as well as reading it. I haven’t chewed on the poems long enough to venture an informed opinion, but my first impressions are good.
Perhaps I should take lessons in meter, rhythm and so on…it couldn’t hurt. The doggerel that I churn out for colleagues and friends goes down well, but if I have any pretensions about some serious odes, there’s a hell of a lot of room for improvement.
