parade with union flags 2014

Not long ’til the glorious 12th of July when King Billy won the battle of the Boyne. This historic day is celebrated by lots of marching bands parading up and down the province, and the lampposts have been festooned with flags for weeks.

This year the flags are the sort of size an aircraft carrier would be proud of – big. They are usually Union Jacks, UVF and Cross of St Andrews, but we did have one KKK flag that caught the headlines.

Painting kerb stones and marking your area are not just summer pastimes, but fun for bigots the whole year ’round.

Orangeday will be my cue to scram over to England. There is a corner of an English field that is forever European (as UKIP don’t say).
