Antelope pub surbiton

Surbiton has a Polish deli just round the corner from my mother’s flat. Rye bread, pickled herring, sausage from Krakowa and giant gherkins at very reasonable prices. Being an early riser these days, I was up and about at 6 am – no bother, the Sainsbury’s at the railway station opens at six. Orange and mango juice, salami from Napoli and tomatoes on the vine – breakfast sorted.

The Antelope, my favourite pub with an amazing selection of real ales, does food. I hope the cuisine is as good as their ale because it would be nice to take mum there when she’s feeling up to it.

I am off to Richmond for lunch with my good friend Kevin today. No doubt we will try some ale in the Orangetree pub before we sit down to eat. Years ago Kevin took me to a Hungarian restaurant in Richmond where we ate well and then attacked the vodka menu. Happy days tinged with the usual pile of crap that life sometimes throws at you.

Now that Mum is out of hospital, my brother and I will be taking the train to Holyhead then over to Dublin and on to Belfast. A 12 hour journey, but only £53 each one-way. I will be taking a cold collation for the trip…quails eggs, foie gras and a bottle of Chateau de Chaselay? No – French bread, Polish sausage and a few bottles of beer should keep body and soul together.
