We arrived at the theatre which was an old, spacious church hall, and picked up our complimentary tickets at the door. There were trestle tables set out with tea and coffee at the back of the hall. Joy was in character and helping to serve. She gave us a cheery wave. It was a fair-sized crowd for amateur dramatics and the queue was moving slowly for the beverages, so we took our seats near the front and listened to the movie soundtrack.
Agnes told me that Joy would be playing Velma, a singer who was in jail for killing her husband and sister after finding them in flagrante.
I am inviting readers to submit comments about where this story goes next –
Is Joy the bipolar friend that Agnes wrote a poem about?
How was the play?
What is the significance of the Dark Horse bar pictured above?
I will update this blog on Monday 18 August depending on any answers submitted by comments.
