The play was surprisingly good. OK there were a few bum notes and the occasional lengthy pause between lines, but the story came across well, and we never considered sneaking out. Agnes and I agreed that Joy was fantastic and we got a chance to tell her so backstage.
Joy was surrounded by members of the cast and she was doing most of the praising.
“I don’t know why you’re wasting time with us amateurs, darling. You were born for the stage. When you took your curtain call I had to cover my ears. The audience erupted with such fervour. ”
When she drew breath we got in a few superlatives. She told us that she and some of the company would be going to the Dark Horse bar and she’d see us there.
