My bike rides along the South Bank have shown me a London that has changed a lot since we emigrated to Ireland in 2000.

Not just the Shard, but a scattering of new glass and steel shapes have sprung up in the City of London.
The West End looks much the same to me, although the shops in New Bond Street have some newcomers. I used to work at number 28. My office on the second floor had a flagpole on the balcony from which we flew the Celine flag. Longchamp are there now ,and I wonder if they have a resident tailor on the top floor. In my day Louis was the tailor and Chelsea fan who let out garments for ladies who over-lunched. I see they’ve moved the flagpole down a bit.
