To truly enjoy idleness you have to witness the frantic rushing about of others going about their daily business. I joined a queue at Waitrose to buy croissants and was nearly grateful that their till wasn’t working so that I would have to stand in line again.
The bus journey was a leisurely way for me to enjoy my espresso watching the world go by from the top deck. Walking at, not just a leisurely pace, but a carefree saunter, I wandered into the market and surveyed the produce without any need to buy anything.
I was on the look out for a restaurant for Friday’s lunch, and Jamie’s has an interesting and reasonably priced menu. With that in mind, I continued my sauntering along the towpath from Kingston to Surbiton taking in the mating habits of ducks and the preparations by boat hire companies for the new season.
Amici is an authentic Italian cafe that serves good espresso and their Wifi is fast. I booked Jamie’s online and checked out local entertainment – £60 for two tickets to a local theatre production is steep (particularly when the seats are in the ‘pit’).
Maybe we’ll be too stuffed after Jamie’s to do much else…a snooze in the cinema might be nice.
