As an omnivore, I like burgers as well as homemade coleslaw and baked potato. That was last night’s dinner. For the troops I had fried some chips, but they were not well done. I suppose deep frying raw potato required some other spud variety or a longer fry at a higher temperature. If I had had time I would have parboiled thick chips and then fried them.

Enough of my culinary musings, meat is the topic for a bit of a ramble. I have bought meat at St George’s market, my local butcher and various supermarkets; of these suppliers I much prefer to give money to local businesses  rather than the giant multinationals.

Lamb shanks are a particular favourite and are relatively cheap, roasting joints can be bought fully prepared, trussed, stuffed, trimmed etc.
