The Six Nations is a great rugby championship and also a way for me to decide which nationality to adopt. With an English father, a Welsh mother and living in Ireland for 19 years, my allegiance is fluid. Currently, I am leaning towards my Welshness, but that might have more to do with Wales having beaten 4 out their 5 opponents to date. That could all change next Saturday if Wales don’t win the Grand Slam.
England are in with a chance of taking top honours if they beat Scotland, and Ireland beat Wales. My Welshness might prove fickle if the Welsh have blown it and England are playing well. I might even feel a sense of English pride if they become Six Nations champions this year.
Do I feel British? No. I have a lot in common with the four home nations and don’t feel the need to dedicate my loyalty to just one of them…
C’mon Wales!
