My bridge had to come out. The pivotal tooth had been fractured when I walked into a door or something stone cold sober.
A few injections and the tugging began to remove three front teeth, or one bridge. A plate was fitted by my excellent dentist and we discussed implants to replace the plate. £2,000 per implant needs some thought, as does the repeated surgical procedures for the implant to be ready for new teeth. Nine months of opening and closing the gums and weighting the implant.
Having removed the plate overnight, popped it into a glass and then painfully put it back this morning, I am leaning towards implants.
I took the afternoon off work and waited for the anaethetics to wear off. I cut the grass to distract myself from the pain and wondered where to plant the 150 assorted bulbs I bought from Lidl.

That evening we had tapas at the Barking Dog restaurant in Belfast which was tasty. I loved the belly of pork and the goat’s cheese balls. Then on to a gig at Imagine Belfast’s festival. Colin Hassard performed his poetry brilliantly and his band, Dirty Words, performed well, the jazzy saxophone electric guitar perfect accompaniment to his punchy lyrics. Colin Hassard was followed by Duke Special whose voice is delicate and his keyboard playing rousing.
An unusual combination of pain and culture, the alcohol helped.
