Sons of a Mother

The day began well. Breakfast was served followed by a walk to the shops to buy flowers, chocolates, a card and the paper. Mothering Sunday. The surprise lunch  at Deanes Meat Locker had been arranged and our youngest was coming to pick us up in plenty of time for herself to get dressed, allowing time to find a parking space downtown.

I had the squid starter which was perfectly cooked. The decor was relaxing and the tables not too close together to hinder conversation. An extra £2.50 was charged for my choice of cheese for dessert. I don’t get that. The same goes when restaurants charge extra for steak – why? I understand why an £8 bottle of wine costs £24 in a restaurant, but it niggles to pay a surcharge for simple dishes like cheese or steak.

We left the restaurant happy and ready for a tootle in our son’s car.
