The US election for the most powerful job in the world is down to two white men in their 70s. Far be it for me to be ageist, but haven’t we had enough of senior citizens trying to rule the world?

Joe Biden has pedigree in politics and is less loony tunes than his opponent, but if I was a first time voter in the USA, I would see two men way past their prime and out of touch with what matters to the current generation.
Trump has an image that makes him popular with Christians, racists, misogynists and capitalists. He makes policy up on the hoof and uses executive orders to bypass the democratic process. Will he win? Who knows, nobody rated his chances last time.
If Biden wins, will he have the votes in Congress to implement Obama’s healthcare initiative? Will he restore international confidence in making treaties? The Paris Agreement and the Iran Nuclear deal spring to mind.
Positive thinking is much admired by Trump in a way that helps him ignore the disasters in his wake. The health of US citizens was compromised by this millionaire bully who ignored plans to deal with a pandemic and watched the death rate soar.
More worrying is a general belief that he is the one chosen by God to lead his nation. That conjures up the image of the Sorcerer’s Apprentice in my mind. The part in Fantasia where the apprentice creates mayhem, and the Sorcerer eventually returns to restore calm.

Hocus Potus
Two old men wrapped in old glory
Their pitch to the nation, the same old story
Of what they will do, and what they have done
The right to abort or carry a gun
God’s on their side and the dollar is strong
Please change the record, I can’t stand this song!
