First get yourself elected into an inflential position, either inside government or within a strong opposition party. Some handy hints:
- If starting an opposition party or revolutionary organisation, choose some nice uniforms and insignia.
- Propoganda is very important as a way of enlisting support. and steering public opinion
- Find some scapegoats to blame for economic or social woes
- Recruit some hard nuts and make them swear loyalty to the cause
- Start some insurrections using your hard nuts to get the media’s attention
- Oratory skills need to be top notch (practise in front of a mirror)
- Consider growing a moustache
- Undermine the current government and its leadership at every opportunity at rallies and in debating chambers
- Gather around you organisers who will carry out your instructions, but who will pose no risk to your ambution
- Create a climate of fear to deter open opposition and confront any opposition with brute force
- Make membership of your party highly desirable from a young age
- Strike while the iron’s hot – grab your chances for a coup d’etat or revolt
- Imprisonment never did any harm to a dictator’s reputation, and may even give you more kudos.
