A discredited doctor, Andrew Wakefield, and his colleagues created a mistrust of the MMR vaccine by publishing his so-called research into the dangers of getting vaccinated in the Lancet. His research could not be verified. It was impossible to recreate his findings and Andrew Wakefield escaped to the USA where he continues to trot out his bogus medical information.
The consequences of he and his colleagues publishing false medical findings were that some parents did not get their children vaccinated. There followed a rise in the number of children contracting those preventable diseases.
