So we’ve elected 90 MLAs to Stormont. The DUP came second to Sinn Fein. Does that mean that those MLAs will be getting down to business, dealing with rising energy costs, a health service at breaking point and schools trying to catch up after lockdown?
No, of course not. Despite the fact that Northern Ireland voted to stay in the EU, because we are shackled to GB they had to work out a protocol after Brexit so that there would not be a border between North and South. A sea border prevented customs checks for goods travelling within Ireland, North and South.
In seaports such as Larne and Belfast there have been delayed deliveriess because of increased paperwork, and political protests. The violence and threats to customs staff gave rise to postponed implementation of customs checks.
The DUP, who supported Brexit, are refusing to take their seats at Stormont until the NI protocol is replaced.
Are we expected to pay 90 MLAs for not doing their jobs again?
