We have escaped across the border to a rented newly built house. The smell of turf fires greeted us and a long walk across a deserted golden beach reminded us of Donegal’s natural beauty.
The house has fine views across green fields and a scattering of modest homes. There is trend towards large houses, 8 bedroomed mansions and the like in Donegal but no sign of those extravagances in this neighborhood. The town is a short distance away with bars, a fish and chip shop and supermarkets. But the real attractions are a short distance from the town centre, long beaches with sand dunes and a background of rolling hills and mountains.

A mini break was just what we needed after too long looking at the same walls.
