Vladimir Putin has failed in his special military operation, or the invasion of Ukraine, as normal people call it. Supported by NATO countries the Ukrainian people have been extraordinarily courageous in the face of Russian aggression.
As a former KGB officer, Putin knows how to clamp down on political opposition. Russian propaganda spins the ridiculous fantasy of Western powers starting the war. Putin’s yes men spout this rubbish in the hope of fooling their own people. But young Russian men of conscription age are leaving the country to avoid being drafted.
What Putin’s war aims are God alone knows, but there’s no sign of him backing down and withdrawing his invading army. The destruction and bloodshed looks set to continue. Whatever humanitarian support can be given to the Ukrainians should continue to be donated. I urge all right thinking people to give what they can to the relief organisations carrying out essential work in the area.
