The UK economy is struggling to show signs of growth and recovery from its huge losses under Liz Truss. Sunak is trying to convince the electorate that he is a safe pair of hands, getting to grips with inflation, curbing excessive public sector wage demands and taxing alcohol according to its strength.
What about climate change, net zero carbon emissions and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels? We have gas and oil in the North Sea that won’t run out for decades. Some of the oil has yet to be extracted and there are plans to start drilling off the coast of Scotland.
Will the next generation thank us for stabilising the economy at the expense of a concerted global initiative to halt global warming?
