At 68 I am not stepping out as I did ten years ago. Some days are better than others, but walking any distance has become a bit of a chore. This puts me at a disadvantage when in younger company. My favourite nephews are in town this week and we took a stroll around the Titanic Quarter of Belfast. My hips and knees were starting to complain after not much distance, so I thought we would rent bikes to cycle along the Lagan.
The docking station at Custom House Square had four bikes ready to go, but the registration panel wasn’t working. A taxi to Jeggy Nettles pub had us sitting outside with glasses of the black stuff. Meeting my son and his fiancée in Botanic Gardens we took the dog for a short walk that was plenty for my decrepitude.
At what point do I consider hip and knee replacement surgery? I will be putting it off for as long as possible.
