Having failed to kill Alexei Navalny, Putin’s harshest critic, using the nerve agent Novichok, they sentenced him to imprisonment in a penal colony in the North Arctic. His health suffered and his death was confirmed by Russia yesterday.
His family have not been given access to his body which suggests that the penal colony has something to hide. He may have died by natural causes. His body was already weakened by the effects of the nerve agent attack.
Alexei Navalny was a very brave man who refused to back down or go into exile. His campaign to expose Putin’s corrupt dictatorship shone the beacon of truth on a dark era in Russian politics.
