I vaguely remember the rivers of blood speech of Enoch Powell and the race riots at the Notting Hill carnival, Brixton and further afield in the UK.
The British National Party and the National Front provocatively marched through areas that had a high percentage of Asian or Afro-Carribean residents.
A senior UK judge at the time advocated ignoring them and they would go away. Luckily the Anti Nazi League paid little heed to such advice and mounted counter demonstrations wherever the BNP or NF decided to parade. Violence ensued and the police got caught in the thick of it.
Today peaceful demonstrations are being held to oppose the far right and it’s racist agenda.
