I have been out and about very early of late. Sainsbury’s opens at 8am, and during the school holidays the vast emporium is practically empty. It feels a bit like the atmosphere of the film ‘The Shining’. If twin young girls appeared in the cleaning products aisle I wouldn’t be totally surprised.
As I shuffled along looking for Harissa paste and tapanade I hear over the Tannoy “clean up in aisle three”. Checking the signage in Irish and English, I was relieved to discover I was in aisle thirteen.
Thirteen, unlucky thirteen? I looked around the aisle to make sure that there was no imminent danger. As I pondered the foolishness of superstition twin girls ran into the aisle giggling. I hurried to the self checkout and paid for my few items.
On the way out of the shopping mall a young boy in a toy pedal car looked at me bemused and I swear he muttered “red rum, red rum”.
