Trump’s Administration goes from bad to worse in its diplomatic gaffes. The group chat revelations to an American journalist portrayed Europe as spongers off the USA.
Europe is in a precarious position. Putin has shown that he will not stop at clandestine interference in democratic elections to install Soviet style puppet governments. Traditionally the USA stood shoulder to shoulder with Europe against Soviet expansionism. The military might of the two superpowers were two sides of the scales of peace. It seems that Europe can no longer rely on their former ally to help keep the peace.
Zelensky talked of a European army, but the EU is against that concept. EU nations do not totally agree on foreign policy, but will probably ramp up their military spending to ensure the defence of their borders.
Trump’s strategy seems to be focused on making deals that bring material benefits to America at the expense of vulnerable nations.
