Or is it? The idea that everything is the way it is because it could not be any other way seems counterintuitive. The odds of our planet being exactly the right distance from the sun with an atmosphere favourable to flora and fauna is highly unlikely. So one might rely on the creator God argument to say that it could not have been otherwise.
Alternatively we might imagine a multiple universe scenario whereby in one of endless possible universes precisely the right conditions existed to start life off.
That initial start to life on our planet combined with Darwin’s evolutionary theory gives some people the idea that all our lives are predetermined. If you accept that, then we don’t have free will and it would be wrong to hold people accountable for their actions.
