Denouement

I made an unfortunate mistake in recommending a play based solely on a review I had barely read to my stunned brother and sister-in-law. The Lyric Theatre’s production of Denouement in Belfast was well acted by actors playing a husband and wife facing a nuclear apocalypse.

Denouement

This was not light entertainment, although there were some moments of black humour. The nervous tension was enhanced by a set that fizzed with multiple television screens and a backdrop of doom-laden skies. The acting was passionate, desperate and evoked by a long married couple facing the inevitable consequences of nuclear war.

We left the theatre numbed by the experience. Needless to say, I will not be allowed to pick the next outing.
