You might be thinking that I have slipped into a well of gloom and depression. You’d be wrong because I am asking myself a serious question about democracy. The USA has a liberal government and a Constitution, a Senate and House of Representatives, and yet Donald Trump has made a mockery of that system by his abuse of Executive Orders.

A procedure that was intended for emergencies has been employed to circumvent the democratic process. Trump has packed the Supreme Court with his favourite judges or yes-men. Despite all that, his supporters would endorse his presidency in a heartbeat. Four Republicans dared to vote against his war-mongering in the Middle East, giving the Democrats a majority. Naturally, Trump has railed against those 4 independent thinkers on his own social media platform.
Internationally, the Russian war against Ukraine is no longer a top priority for Trump. Zelensky is asking for direct talks with Putin, but what’s in it for Russia? They invaded a sovereign state, have held onto Ukrainian territory and don’t appear to be in any hurry to make peace.
Israel has invaded Lebanon and the Iranian backed Hezbollah won’t support the peace talks in the region. Trump has yet to achieve the success that Obama gained in Iran over nuclear weapons. In fact, he has destabilised the situation for all Gulf states and allowed Israel to continue its illegal occupation of Palestinian land.
What are his achievements at home? He is spending millions of dollars of public money on a ballroom for the White House, God help anyone on welfare, and his stranglehold on Cuba is disgraceful.
