I enjoy browsing the lots on online auction websites. Locally, Ross’s has a good reputation for prominent artists’ work. Artists such as: William Conor, Marky Robinson, and Charles McCaulay are often up for auction. Even prints and catalogues come up for bidding at affordable prices.
I bought a watercolour some time ago by Rowland Hill of Falcarragh beach in Donegal where we spent many family holidays. It was a bit faded by exposure to direct sunlight, and it was unframed. I spent more having it framed than on the painting itself.
You can set up a watch list for artists you are interested in. You can sort and filter the auction lots by artist, size or price, which makes life easier if there are loads of lots.
