My Saturdays are usually lazy days of overeating and binge tv watching. But last week I ventured out and felt all the better for it.
This weekend I bought my better half a bicycle from Austin. It’s a nearly new Carrrera with front suspension. I rode it around Ormeau Park and was impressed.
Nearby is a wine merchant, the Vinyard, that has a wide range of ciders. The man in the shop knows his stuff and told me about a local cider maker and the difference between the Breton and Normandy bottles they stock. I opted for a flagon of Westons Scrumpy.
A brief trip to the John Hewitt and a pint of Yardsman ale set me up for the evening’s rugby.

Saracens rampaged over the Glasgow Warriors and Ulster faced last year’s winners, Leinster. What a huge effort by the men in red who charged down a kick to take a surprising lead. The lead changed hands a couple of times and the outcome was uncertain until the end.
The scrumpy helped to drown the sorrow of Ulster’s defeat. They will have another crack at Leinster in the Pro14. I will be there at the Kingspan Stadium standing up for the Ulstermen.
