I still take a chance when locking my bike on the street. I use the mechanism that locks the rear wheel. I did that this morning as I visited Gormley’s art gallery on the Lisburn Road where there was an interesting room filled with large acrylic landscape paintings by Irish artist Bridget Flinn.

When I left the gallery a young man was holding my bike by the handlebars and appeared to be trying to walk away with it. I raised my voice to shout “that’s my bike, leave it alone!” He mumbled something that I didn’t hear so I repeated my request. He became angry and said “ok, I’ll leave it where it was” and he threw my bike on the pavement. I tried to calm him by apologizing for my misunderstanding (if that’s what it was). He replied that if I spoke to him like that again he’d put my head through the shop window. He walked away. I checked my bike and unlocked it. A kind woman and her daughter asked if I was alright. I told her it was a misunderstanding and thanked her.
I checked the time and La Bottega was now open for business…THE END
