Friday night

It started reasonably well, a couple of pints at the rugby, a fast-moving physical contest between evenly matched sides and then my son came to get me from the Grandstand seat and told me that my better half was in A&E after she’d had some blurred vision in one eye.

14 hours later, after several tests (bloods, ECG, and Catscan), we are waiting for the Catscan results. I was sent home at about 2.30 when the expected waiting time was estimated to be 10 and a half hours. At 8.30 a.m., I cycled along the Falls Road, picked up some coffee, and a sandwich and returned to A&E.

All the hospital staff have been ‘dead on’ as they say here, meaning excellent.

The results came back clear, which was a relief and possibly worth the wait.
