Under pressure

We noticed a drop in the water pressure over the last two days. We thought it might have had something to do with the boiler, but it occurred to us that there could have been a burst mains water pipe in our street.

After the flood

This morning we checked with our neighbour, and Jim called round to check our plumbing. Nothing wrong with the boiler, the pressure was low in the bathroom and kitchen, so Jim and I went out to check the converted garage. It was flooded, and you could hear the water still gushing out. Jim tried to switch off the water in the garage and discovered that the stopcock had been blown off the mains water pipe. Luckily Jim is a good man in an emergency and was able to switch the water off in the street for our house.

Aidan, our building contractor whose company carried out the house renovation and garage conversion,  will try to get a plumber out to us tomorrow. In the meantime, we have no access to tap water. Our youngest will be bringing us some fresh water later on. Showers will have to wait.
