I have blogged about a diverse range of topics, so it should come as no surprise that I am writing about the mundane task of trying to get clothes dry.
The climate in Belfast is shaped by the proximity of mountains and the sea, that gives us plenty of rainy days.Hanging out clothes on a washing line is a dodgy business. You should check the local weather forecast, but not trust it entirely.
Today is set to be a dry day, but not necessarily a drying day. I have had the rug that got soaked in the flooding of our converted garage on a washing line for nearly a week. This necessitated propping up the line because of the weight. It is lighter, but by no means dry.
I actually enjoy pegging out clothes in the garden. It is a small space surrounded by bushes with berries and others like an exotic holly bush. The tree sapling that we planted when we moved in stands 20-30 feet tall with white flowers in the summer and red berries in the winter. The apple trees in each corner are growing too tall, so they will get a trim soon.
Standing in that small patched of ragged grass is a privilege. Our house has one of the largest gardens in this housing estate, which gives us a degree of seclusion and privacy.
