I am staying in a luxurious airbnb on the Esplanade at Bognor-Regis for a few days. Bognor is a strange seaside town with echos of its regal past in the architecture. The local population seems to be a mixture of elderly types in mobility scooters dominating the pavements and down at heel young people congregating near council offices and health centres. Obviously, there are less noticeable citizens going about their business in large vehicles, but the overall impression is one of decline.

My one bedroomed apartment is in the basement area of a former hotel called the Royal, not to be confused with the nearby Royal Norfolk Hotel that gave itself a fake Royal warrant to impress unsuspecting guests.
The decor and layout make this airbnb a very comfortable stay. The wardrobe had little printed labels on the shelves detailing umbrella, sewing kit, beach shelter, towels etc. The kitchen is well equipped with Nespresso coffee maker and everything else you might need, including a dishwasher. It took me a while to find the cutlery drawer that was concealed inside a larger drawer, which led to me spreading Lurpak butter on my toast with a paring knife on the first morning. My hosts had thoughtfully provided bread, butter, milk, and coffee pods to get my days started.

There are plenty of good restaurants in the area. I took my daughter to Cafe Punjab on the first night. We ate delicious Punjabi food, including a vegetable Molly, Chicken Kurma, Lamb Rogan Josh followed by Kulfi and Coconut ice cream. Today, we are having lunch at the Mezze, a Turkish restaurant that offers a 2 course lunch for £13.90
Apologies for going into so much detail about food. I don’t know if you can hear my tummy rumbling, but breakfast was a long time ago, and the Mounjaro is not suppressing my appetite the way it used to.
